About The GP Says

I'm Dr Paul. I spent more than twenty years as an NHS GP.

In all those years, the thing I wanted most was more time. Ten minutes is not long enough to explain what a cholesterol result actually means, or why one person's headache needs a scan and another's doesn't. Most people leave the surgery with a plan but without an understanding — and an understanding is what changes how you live with something.

The GP Says is my attempt to give some of that time back.

What you'll find here

Over forty articles on the conditions that come up most often in general practice — heart health, cancer awareness, digestion, mental health, women's health, sleep, medication, and the everyday decisions in between.

Each one is built the same way. What the condition actually is. The social media myths worth clearing out of the way. Why it matters. What your doctor does about it, and why. The research it all rests on, cited so you can check it yourself. And a visual summary you can watch instead of read.

Every article is created and reviewed by me. Every claim is referenced to a primary source.

Who it's for

Patients, carers, and anyone who wants to understand their own health rather than be managed through it. There's no assumed knowledge and no jargon left unexplained. If you've ever nodded along in an appointment and looked it up afterwards, this is written for you.

How it works

Membership opens the full library and brings new articles to your inbox as they're published. There's a free tier so you can read the opening section of anything before deciding.

One important thing

This is health education, not medical advice. Nothing here is a diagnosis, and nothing here replaces the doctor who knows you and can examine you. What it should do is send you into that appointment better informed — and better able to ask the questions that matter.
